Do I need passport/vaccination certificate/chip to enter the country with a pet?

Previously, Ukrainians traveling to Poland could cross the border with their pets under simplified conditions. However, currently traveling to Poland with pets is subject to the general conditions for the import of animals to the EU. Namely, your pet must have the following documents:

  • document that confirms that the animal is identified by means of a microchip;
  • document confirming that the animal has been vaccinated against rabies (vaccination is valid);
  • document confirming that the animal has an up-to-date result of a test to determine antibodies to rabies;
  • valid European pet passport or an EU animal health certificate;
  • written declaration confirming that the import of an animal is not for commercial purposes.

How can I travel with my pet on a plane?

There are several airlines that allow flights with pets onboard. It is up to each airline to establish regulations and additional tariffs. Therefore we advise you to get in contact with the specific airline.

The general rule is that pets (together with their crate) which remain below a certain weight may be carried in the cabin, whereas pets exceeding such threshold weight must be carried in the cargo area.

What's required to keep the pet in a given country?

Main requirements:

  • the animal must be identified using a microchip (transponder) or a clearly legible tattoo applied before 03.07.2011;
  • the animal must have a valid vaccination against rabies;
  • a current serological study was conducted to determine the titer of antibodies to rabies.
