Do I need passport/vaccination certificate/chip to enter the country with a pet?

Please note that the rules for entry to different countries from Ukraine may vary. For instance, for the entry to Poland the general conditions for the import of animals to the EU apply.

In Germany, it is not necessary to submit a preliminary application to receive the entry permit with a pet. You can bring your pet without any restrictions. Immediately upon arrival, contact the local veterinary authority for checkup. If necessary, the vet will perform all the necessary steps including: issuing a vet passport and microchipping. Subsequently, dogs must be registered in Germany. You can register your dog at the so-called โ€œTax and City Treasury Officeโ€ (โ€žSteuer- und Stadtkassenamtโ€œ) in the municipality where you are registered. Registration is free; however, as a dog-owner, you have to pay the so-called โ€œdog taxโ€ (โ€œHundesteuerโ€). The amount of the โ€œHundesteuerโ€ differs from city to city, but it is usually between โ‚ฌ30 to โ‚ฌ190 per year. After registration, you will receive a dog tag with a unique number โ€“you should always carry this tag with you when you are out with your dog. How can I travel with my pet on a plane?

There are several airlines that allow flying with a pet onboard. It is up to each airplane to establish regulations and additional tariffs. Therefore we advise you to get in contact with the specific airline you plan on using.

The general rule is that pets (together with their crate) which remain below a certain weight may be carried in the cabin, whereas pets exceeding such threshold weight must be carried in the cargo area.

What's required to keep the pet in a given country?

You must follow the regulations specified in your rental contract. In many rental agreements, animals are prohibited. If there is a specific ban regarding pets in your rental agreement, you must comply.

Pets in Germany must be vaccinated, have documents and a chip. If your pet does not have this, you need to contact a veterinarian, who will examine the animal and do a microchip.

As soon as you receive the chip number, register your pet in "FINDEFIX" - the German pet registry. It is free. If your pet gets lost in an unfamiliar area, it can be found quickly.
