How do I set up a bank account?

You can go to a bank to open a bank account. The bank has to verify your identity. Therefore, you need to present your health insurance card which contains your CPR number which is required to open your bank account. Some banks will also ask for your passport

How do I withdraw cash or exchange my currencies?

You can withdraw money from an ATM. To exchange cash, you can go the Currency Exchange Offices or to a bank.

How do I pay taxes in a country?

If you have a job, you need a tax card to pay the correct amount of taxes. You can make your tax card here mceclip0.png. You must report on the expected income from your new job.

If you work abroad while staying in Denmark, you will normally be tax liable in Denmark. In this case you need to get the tax card made as well.

When moving to Denmark you must also inform the tax authorities about your foreign properties and income from abroad (e.g., real estate, pension, stocks etc.). Passive foreign income also falls under taxation in Denmark.

You must also establish a Nemkonto to get benefits from the state. Nemkonto is the account where the state will pay benefits. You can make your Nemkonto using either a Danish or a Ukrainian bank account here mceclip0.png.

When you have established a Nemkonto and made a tax card, the taxes should get paid automatically and correctly.

How can I send money back to Ukraine?

You can transfer money from Denmark to Ukraine via an international transfer or money transfer at a corresponding provider or a bank.

For an international transfer at the bank you have to fill out a special form and usually pay fees. Other special money transfer providers (e.g. Western Union, Moneygram, Wise, Revolut, Paypal) are often a cheaper and faster alternative.
